WHAT IS THE S.T.O.P SYSTEM? 
 
It is a prescriptive way of working with clients to break patterns of behaviour, for example panic attacks, post traumatic stress or generalised high anxiety. The S.T.O.P Panic and PTSD System often works in one session.

WHY DOES IT WORK? 
  • S.T.O.P is psycho educational….. we fear the things we do not understand.
  • S.T.O.P separates the client from the problem.

Post traumatic stress disorder is usually caused as a result of an event which feels life threatening in some way. There are currently many military personnel returning from combat situations who are at risk. But as he started to recount his story, he began to cry and I realised that his life was slowly unravelling due to increasingly severe panic attacks which had begun six years earlier when his father died. His symptoms had been so severe at times that he had been admitted to A and E by ambulance for suspected heart attack, the very condition which had claimed his own father’s life.  His therapeutic goal for that first week was to just get through 24 hours without having a panic attack.
